Recommend A...

"Recommend A..." is a weekly meme, posted every Monday, hosted over on Chick Loves Lit. It's a quick, fun and unique way to recommend a book that you love!

Recommend A..book with a green cover!

By Juliet Marillier

Whistling Tor is a place of secrets, a mysterious, wooded hill housing the crumbling fortress of a chieftain whose name is spoken throughout the district in tones of revulsion and bitterness. A curse lies over Anluan's family and his people; those woods hold a perilous force whose every whisper threatens doom.

For young scribe Caitrin it is a safe haven. This place where nobody else is prepared to go seems exactly what she needs, for Caitrin is fleeing her own demons. As Caitlin comes to know Anluan and his home in more depth she realizes that it is only through her love and determination that the curse can be broken and Anluan and his people set free.

Love, love LOVE Juliet Marillier and as I was perusing through Goodreads I realized that I really haven't read that many books with a green cover and this was one of the few so obviously I jumped right on it! If you haven't read Marillier, go read something by her now. You're welcome.

  1. This is definitely more of a book for my husband rather than me, but I love how much of the cover is green! Thanks for participating this week (and don't forget to go link up so other people can see your recommendation)!

    1. Have you read any Marillier? It's a (loose) retelling of Beauty and the Beast, so good!!

  2. I have read and liked Marillier - but I have yet to read this one. I do want to though, since it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling :)

  3. Ooh, this sounds good! I have two different Marilliers sitting on my bookshelf and I am hoping to get to them soon. This one might also have to be added to the list -- I absolutely LOVE Beauty and the Beast!

  4. Oh. I've never even heard of this author! Gonna be honest, I'd probably skip over this book based on the cover, but since you recommend her so much maybe I'll have to check her out!

  6. I LOVED this book! So, so good. Mine has a different cover, but I'm loving the forest and castle in the background in this one - it really fits. Great recommendation!

  7. I love this cover. I've been crazy busy with the blog this weekend so I've only gotten FIVE PAGES READ of Daughter of the Forest, but I'm already totally intrigued. I'm sure I'll go through all of hers!

  8. I'm always interested in Beauty and the Beast retellings and this one had the added bonus of being written by Juliet Marillier. I liked it but I didn't love it as much as her Sevenwaters novels.
